The Butterfly House is a magical destination and a safe sanctuary for butterflies. The Bribie Island Butterfly House is a local volunteer project that welcomes many happy visitors. Around 700-1000 butterflies are housed in an outdoor sanctuary where they are safe to fly, feed, breed, lay their eggs, and continue their magical life cycle which you can explore up close and personal.
In the heart of Bongaree and close to your Bribie Island accommodation. The seaside Museum is a must-see for visitors. Run by Moreton Bay Regional Council. the purpose-built museum is contemporary in design and has views to the parkland and beach. The main reception has a wonderful shop which sells some interesting Bribie Island souvenirs.
Learn about Bribie Island’s rich military history during WWII and discover the birthplace of modern seaside tourism. Entry is free, and the museum is open Tues – Fri 10am – 4pm, Sat & Sun 10am – 3pm.
The most entertaining way to explore the recreation area, divine Ocean Beach and wildlife found on the island is via 4WD. Please note a vehicle permit is required to access the Bribie Island Recreation Area.
